Summary

Lisey Landon lost her husband Scott two years ago, after a twenty-five-year marriage of profound, sometimes frightening intimacy。 Scott was a celebrated, award-winning, novelist。 And a complex man。 Lisey knew there was a dark place where her husband ventured to face his demons。 Boo'ya Moon is what Scott called it; a realm that both terrified and healed him, that could eat him alive or give him the ideas he needed to write and live。 Now, it's Lisey's turn to face her husband's demons。 And what begins as a widow's effort to sort through her husband's effects, becomes a perilous journey into the heart of darkness

I loved this story so much。 I felt deeply connected to a world I'm very familiar with and often times wish I can stay in because this current world doesn't feel real to me。 The love story between husband and wife also reminds me of the relationship I have with my beloved husband。 It's a once in a lifetime thing where one can find their soul mate in a life that has been shrouded in darkness for so long, yet when they bring the light in whatever shape and form to help you find your way to some goo I loved this story so much。 I felt deeply connected to a world I'm very familiar with and often times wish I can stay in because this current world doesn't feel real to me。 The love story between husband and wife also reminds me of the relationship I have with my beloved husband。 It's a once in a lifetime thing where one can find their soul mate in a life that has been shrouded in darkness for so long, yet when they bring the light in whatever shape and form to help you find your way to some good that speaks something of itself。 。。。more

In true King form, this book was creepy and intriguing。 Unlike many of his other books, however, there was more of a sci-fi element and a lot of heart in this novel。 It was very well done and I would recommend it to anyone。

Szeretem King könyveit, mert a való világot és a misztikumot olyan szelíden olvasztja egymásba, hogy megkérdőjelezem a valóságról kialakult képemet。 Olyan világokat mutat be, melyek akár létezhetnének a miénkkel párhuzamosan。 Annyira valóságosak és egyszerre valóságon túliak a regényei, hogy csak kapkodom a fejemet。A történet során egy író gyerekkorát ismerjük meg, aki testvérével együtt bántalmazásnak volt kitéve。 Sikerkönyveihez valamilyen szinten mindig a gyerekkorból merített ihletet, ezzel Szeretem King könyveit, mert a való világot és a misztikumot olyan szelíden olvasztja egymásba, hogy megkérdőjelezem a valóságról kialakult képemet。 Olyan világokat mutat be, melyek akár létezhetnének a miénkkel párhuzamosan。 Annyira valóságosak és egyszerre valóságon túliak a regényei, hogy csak kapkodom a fejemet。A történet során egy író gyerekkorát ismerjük meg, aki testvérével együtt bántalmazásnak volt kitéve。 Sikerkönyveihez valamilyen szinten mindig a gyerekkorból merített ihletet, ezzel is kissé könnyítve saját lelkén。 Felesége, a mindig támogató Lisey, özveggyé válása után próbálja megérteni megboldogult férje lelki világát。 A feladatot megnehezítik a kiadatlan kéziratokra áhítozó irodalmárok és őrült rajongók。 A történet előrehaladtával Lisey egyre jobban belemerül a férje által megélt világba, melyben a megszokottól más szabályok működnek。A könyv hozta a szokásos King-színvonalat, és a júliusban megjelent új kiadás tökéletesen illik a sorozatba。Köszönöm az eltebook。hu-nak, hogy biztosítottak számomra egy példányt。 。。。more

My favorite book。 So far。

It has a longer fuse than most King novels, but when it finally goes off, it’s the best firework display you’ll ever see。 Great novel。 I’ll add: it makes me want to reread “Rose Madder。” I suspect they could be in the same universe。 I can’t say exactly why, but they feel very connected。

3。75*Very good story, there are other Stephen King books I prefer more but still worth reading。 I picked this one up so I could watch the limited series。 Hope the movie is s good as the book, it contains some big name actors so I hope it lives up to the hype。

My all time favourite book!! I have re read this book about a dozen times and each time it gets better! Definitely recommend, have some tissues ready too!

I listened to this as an audible book - the narrator was outstanding。Although this has the expected supernatural element, Lisey's Story is, at its heart, a love story and an exploration of grief。 Yes, I too was irritated by the weird baby-talk that Lisey and her husband employed, but maybe some couples do that? Anyway, it's a small irritant in a book that I found particularly moving。 I listened to this as an audible book - the narrator was outstanding。Although this has the expected supernatural element, Lisey's Story is, at its heart, a love story and an exploration of grief。 Yes, I too was irritated by the weird baby-talk that Lisey and her husband employed, but maybe some couples do that? Pretty mediocre Stephen King book。 I found the word usage somewhat annoying (Bool, Gunky, Smucking)。 I realize the author was trying to capture these characters but it didn't work for me。 Much worse was that the plot was slow to develop (at least 1/3 of book before anything interesting) and once it got "good", it didn't get thatgood。 Pretty mediocre Stephen King book。 I found the word usage somewhat annoying (Bool, Gunky, Smucking)。 I realize the author was trying to capture these characters but it didn't work for me。 Much worse was that the plot was slow to develop (at least 1/3 of book before anything interesting) and once it got "good", it didn't get thatgood。 。。。more

The book was good — much more introspective than many King novels however when you’re reading a Stephen King book it’s unfortunately going to be compared to his other works and this one just wasn’t my favorite。 I enjoyed the internal thoughts and emotions from Lisey’s perspective but it kind of leveled out my intrigue about 1/2 way through。

While this book would have received one and a half stars if possible, I figured with such a low rating an explanation was in order。Going into Lisey's Story I knew it was one of, if not the, most polarizing of Stephen King's books。 This is why I put off reading it for ten years and only picked it up because a。) I was running out of TBR King books and b。) the adaptation was announced。 Having said that, I also thought Rose Madder had it's share of critics and I really enjoyed it。 Unfortunately, the While this book would have received one and a half stars if possible, I figured with such a low rating an explanation was in order。Going into Lisey's Story I knew it was one of, if not the, most polarizing of Stephen King's books。 This is why I put off reading it for ten years and only picked it up because a。) I was running out of TBR King books and b。) the adaptation was announced。 Having said that, I also thought Rose Madder had it's share of critics and I really enjoyed it。 Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for this one。My general feeling on Lisey's Story is that someone tried to replicate King's style, but instead of matching it they cranked all of his quirks up to an 11。 The amount of idioms and unconventional choices was just too high for me。 While I can understand the charm of fully understanding another couple's relationship through their love language, I can only read "bool" and "smucking" so many times。 Not to mention despite how many times "SOWISA" was used, I will never fully remember what it stands for。 My biggest issue, however, is that the plot was stretched too thin。 There were some really interesting characters, such as Lisey's sister Amanda, but there were too many flashbacks to Scott's past that took away from present events。 By trying to weave together the past with Scott and his abusive father with the present situation of Lisey's grief, an unstable family member, and Zack McCool's obsession it left little room to fully expand on any of the plotlines。 The most fleshed out character was Scott, but since we knew how his story ends right at the beginning there was very little attachment to what he went through。There was a lot of potential with Lisey's Story and I would still love to have a book from King that really delves into self-harm further, but if someone was looking to explore the theme of grief I would much sooner point them to Pet Sematary。 。。。more

A tedious slog。 King’s gift for introspection and his love of language is bogged down by the unwieldy, ridiculous plot and cartoony villain。 I never felt like it did a good job at illustrating Lisey indepently of her famous husband— when all is said and done, she just exists in his shadow。 She is an object to move the book forward (even down to her gratuitous, even for King, torture scene)。 And don’t get me started on the unvented phrases between Lisey and Scott (“smucking, “bad-gunky,” “Bool,” A tedious slog。 King’s gift for introspection and his love of language is bogged down by the unwieldy, ridiculous plot and cartoony villain。 I never felt like it did a good job at illustrating Lisey indepently of her famous husband— when all is said and done, she just exists in his shadow。 She is an object to move the book forward (even down to her gratuitous, even for King, torture scene)。 And don’t get me started on the unvented phrases between Lisey and Scott (“smucking, “bad-gunky,” “Bool,” to name a few) that are cute the first time they’re mentioned, only to overstay their welcome。 。。。more

First 350 pages were hard to trudge through。 I am a huge King fan and always find his stories easy to read, but for some reason, this was was a tough one。 The last 100 or so pages were great and saved the story。 Lisey and Scott’s love in the end really shown through。 Also, this was my first audible, so I don’t know if that affected my thoughts on this or not。 Long Live the King!

On one level, this is a book about dealing with grief。 It starts two years after the death of Lisey Landon's husband, Scott。 Scott was a bestselling writer and popular speaker, and Lisey is still dealing with all the papers he left behind, and with those who want those papers for their university libraries or so they can publish more works about Scott。 But bit by bit King fills in more of the backstory, sometimes hinting at parts he'll only fill in a hundred pages or more later。 Scott was almost On one level, this is a book about dealing with grief。 It starts two years after the death of Lisey Landon's husband, Scott。 Scott was a bestselling writer and popular speaker, and Lisey is still dealing with all the papers he left behind, and with those who want those papers for their university libraries or so they can publish more works about Scott。 But bit by bit King fills in more of the backstory, sometimes hinting at parts he'll only fill in a hundred pages or more later。 Scott was almost killed by a gunman during a library dedication in Tennessee, but Lisey saves him before the gunman can get in a second shot。 Scott comes from a family whose members suffer from mental illness, but Lisey has a sister who also has problems。 Scott also seems to be somehow connected to something supernatural -- again only hinted at at first (Scott's wounds seem to heal faster than makes sense), but eventually explored in more detail。 King does a fine job assembling the pieces of the tapestry。 Finally, Lisey is threatened by a madman, who promises to torture and kill her if she doesn't turn over Scott's papers immediately to a professor the madman got to know in a bar。 Much of the tension in the last third of the book is Lisey's dealings with this potential killer。 The back and forth nature of the book does require the reader to pay more close attention than in most thrillers (I think this is why some readers have called it rambling and confusing), but it does reward the effort。 。。。more

A Wonderful Love Story Believe it or not, one of the things I really enjoy about Stephen King is that he often gets love right。 The ways in which he navigates relationship often resonate with me and this is the case with Lisey’s Story。 The relationship between Scott and his abusive father。 The relationship between young brothers。 The relationship amongst 5 sisters as they grow into adulthood and middle age。 The relationship between Lisey and her husband。 They all work for me and showcase King’s A Wonderful Love Story Believe it or not, one of the things I really enjoy about Stephen King is that he often gets love right。 The ways in which he navigates relationship often resonate with me and this is the case with Lisey’s Story。 The relationship between Scott and his abusive father。 The relationship between young brothers。 The relationship amongst 5 sisters as they grow into adulthood and middle age。 The relationship between Lisey and her husband。 They all work for me and showcase King’s heart in a way that reflects his goodness。 King’s writing style was a little clunky (different than other novels) at times, but it grew on me。 He has developed a language between Scott and Lisey’s that is unique to them and which often grows out of long term relationships。 This is great, but it kind of takes a little while to be read-in to their world。 。。。more

I read this book years ago。 I started reading it again, not remembering I'd read it before。 I was reading my "new" book club choice when an incident occurred that triggered a memory - the protagonist received some urgently requested ice。 I knew I had read that before。 So I must have read this book before although nothing else was familiar。 But slowly, the very general outline of the book came back into my memory。 For now, I'm quitting the book in favor of something genuinely new to me。 They say I read this book years ago。 I started reading it again, not remembering I'd read it before。 I was reading my "new" book club choice when an incident occurred that triggered a memory - the protagonist received some urgently requested ice。 I knew I had read that before。 So I must have read this book before although nothing else was familiar。 But slowly, the very general outline of the book came back into my memory。 For now, I'm quitting the book in favor of something genuinely new to me。 They say that an Alzheimer's patient needs only one good book to be entertained - they can read it over and over again。 Maybe Lisey's Story is a 4-star read。 。。。more
